Shopify Markets
A Shopify feature that helps merchants sell to customers in different countries and regions with localized shopping experiences.
Shopify Markets supports international selling by allowing merchants to configure market-specific settings such as currencies, languages, domains, pricing, and product availability.
A market is a group of buyers defined by conditions: where they’re located, the retail location they’re shopping at, or the company location they’re buying for. Each market can carry its own currency, price list, languages, domain or subfolder, and product catalog, all from one store.
What Can Shopify Markets Manage?
Depending on the store setup, Shopify Markets can support:
- Countries and regions
- Local currencies
- Languages
- Market-specific domains
- Product availability
- International pricing
- Localized shopping experiences
Shopify Markets and Product Catalogs
Not every product needs to be available in every market. Merchants can manage which products are available in different selling contexts while maintaining their international catalog.
Each market has a catalog. Products excluded from a market’s catalog are hidden from that market’s storefront, and the market’s price list can adjust prices by a percentage or set fixed prices for individual variants. Markets can also be nested: when a buyer matches more than one, Shopify applies the most specific market (Shopify developer documentation, September 2026).
Why Shopify Markets Matters for Product Data
Selling across multiple markets can require different product content, pricing, languages, and availability. Managing these differences becomes more difficult as the number of products and markets grows.
Translating for Shopify Markets: what 135 critical reviews report
Markets decides which language a buyer sees. The translations themselves usually come from Shopify’s Translate & Adapt app, rated 4.5 stars from 1,420 reviews. In September 2026 we hand-coded the 135 critical (1–3 star) reviews of the app that have text. The most common themes:
- Two-language auto-translate cap: 33 reviews (24.4%). Shopify’s help center confirms the app auto-translates at most two languages and that removing one doesn’t reset the limit; further languages have to be added by hand or with a third-party app.
- Content left untranslated, such as variants, emails, tags, policies and filters: 17 reviews (12.6%).
- Translations that go stale or disappear after the source product is edited: 15 reviews (11.1%).
- No bulk workflow for catalogs with hundreds or thousands of products: 13 reviews (9.6%).
- No way to adapt content for a specific market or region: 7 reviews (5.2%).
Counting stale translations, missing bulk tools, overwritten edits and untranslated metafields together, 38 of the 135 reviews (28.1%) describe a translation that has lost its link to the source product. Caveats: critical reviews are self-selected, one analyst did the coding, the reviews date from 2022 to 2026, and one review can carry several themes.
Shopify Markets and Apimio
A PIM can centralize product information before it is distributed to different stores and markets. Apimio helps teams manage product content, attributes, images, and localized catalog information across connected Shopify stores. See our full guide on Shopify Markets product management for a deeper look at localizing a catalog the right way.
On the Advanced and Enterprise plans, Catalog Hub Multi-language keeps 30+ locales on one product record and syncs translations and Markets price lists to Shopify. AI translations are metered, previewed before they save, and logged with who ran them.
